The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Research and Development (ORD), Pacific Ecological Systems Division (PESD) in Corvallis, Oregon, requires an aquatic ecologist with demonstrated experience and technical expertise in the analysis and interpretation of the data from large-scale probability-based surveys such as the National Aquatic Resources Surveys (NARS). The awardee shall use the NARS data, with no additional training, to support multi-scale analyses of the conditions of wetlands, rivers and streams, and lakes. The awardee shall work in coordination with the PESD’s NARS Team, collaborating with EPA Office of Water team members, EPA Regions, and selected States.

The successful applicant shall support four (4) NARS surveys and assessments: 1. National Rivers and Streams Assessment (NRSA) 2. National Lakes Assessment (NLA) 3. National Coastal Condition Assessment (NCCA) 4. National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA) The three afore mentioned surveys are conducted across the conterminous U.S. every five (5) years…

Under this task, the successful applicant shall use appropriate statistical and data manipulation methods to define and identify reference (i.e., least-disturbed) sites for NWCA 2021 (see Herlihy et al. 2019, e.g.). These analyses may include the calculation of metrics and associated thresholds or other new variables from the raw data and may require the use of other NWCA indicator and landscape data.
