Included below the OS AI team highlights a set of 11 formal strategic small business arrangements made by some of the top Federal IT and Consulting firms in November of 2023, to include one longtime CMS leader aligning with an 8(a) woman-owned small business which takes a human-centered design approach to quality improvement (QI); an emerging 8(a) WOSB Digital Transformation specialist aligning with an established IT services provider to DHS, IRS, and the DOD/Defense Health Agency; and a global consulting firm aligning with an established Veterans Affairs SDVOSB partner.
The winds can change quickly, so from a competitive standpoint it is important to regularly review which large, mid-tier and emerging small businesses are creating alliances, and with whom. One example of a formal declaration of a partnership comes in the form of the popular Small Business Administration (SBA) mentor protégé arrangement, whereby an emerging small business creates a tighter bond with a mentor company and should be viewed as a likely go-to potential partner option (Prime or sub) for the respective mentor.
The SBA Mentor Protégé Program is a well utilized program intended to help eligible small businesses (protégés) gain capacity and win government contracts through partnerships with more experienced companies that are willing to fill the mentor role. It will come as no surprise that many highly successful government contractors and mentors came up through the program themselves.
The spreadsheet below details a subset of the agreements that were formalized and approved by SBA in fiscal year 2022. The Orange Slices team bolded a few of the more interesting companies and pairings, to include Telligen, NikSoft, ATW Health Solutions; ResolveSoft, Rios Partners, Symposit, Boston Consulting Group, HumanTouch, Abaco Strategy, Insight Technology Solutions, and Business Integra Technology Solutions (BI).
