USU is seeking a means to electronically streamline and automate research operations by implementing a single, end-to-end Research Administration System (RAS) solution for sponsored programs supporting the mission of the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) “to create an outstanding climate of support for USU Researchers.” This presents an opportunity to significantly improve the research administration and other administrative processes by providing users (such as Principal Investigators, administrators, researchers, faculty, and staff) with a user-friendly, web-based interface that will help in automating, streamlining, and accelerating the research administration processes. Furthermore, it will significantly simplify processes and will provide information technology necessary to help ensure conformance with the regulations and policies, while reducing the long-term administrative costs.
USU is seeking an enterprise-level Research Administration System to manage the lifecycle of research projects from application to close-out. The system will be designed to streamline research administration processes, improve the ability to manage grants and other research funding, enhance reporting capabilities, and improve overall efficiency and productivity.
3.1. The system must include a module(s) to manage the “critical path” of the research project lifecycle in a system driven by the experience gained by the respective respondents from addressing the needs of other research institutions similar in scope and size to USU.
3.2. The system must be user configurable to answer the unique needs, organizational structure, and processes of a federal institution working hand-in-hand with nonprofit partner organizations.
3.3. User configurations would include the creation of additional workflows and approvals outside of the standard research “critical path” to reflect needs and processes unique to USU with respect to the offices listed in Section 2.1 – 2.13 (above).
