Cursor recruits former Army JSOC CIO John Riester

This results-driven IT and cybersecurity executive with 27 years of progressive leadership, delivering resilient enterprise communications, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity operations, and strategic information systems in mission-critical, global environments takes on a new role.

John Riester is now listed as Strategic Partnerships & Growth Lead with Cursor.

In this role John will help build Cursor’s federal public sector business from the ground up, leading engagement across the Department of War and Combatant Commands. He will partner with defense engineering leaders and industry partners to accelerate the adoption of secure AI, modernize legacy software, and enable software factories that deliver capability at the speed of mission. It’s an opportunity to bridge operational experience with cutting-edge technology to help transform how defense organizations build and deliver software.

As Chief Information Officer at Joint Special Operations Command, John led global IT strategy, managed $740M+ budgets supporting 25,000 users, unified IT leadership functions to accelerate cloud and data solutions, divested $100M in legacy systems for agile reinvestment, and earned the highest Top Secret network cybersecurity inspection score in DoD history.
