Optum Serve recruits CMS Acting CISO Keith Busby

Keith Busby shared: After more than two years serving as the Acting CISO at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, I’ve officially joined Optum Serve.

It’s hard to put into words what it meant to serve in that seat. CMS protects the health data and benefits of over 160 million Americans, and getting to help defend that mission every day was one of the great privileges of my career. None of what we accomplished happened alone. I’m deeply proud of what my team built together, and grateful for the people who trusted, challenged, and supported me along the way. You know who you are, and you made me better.

While I don’t yet know who will step into the role behind me, I have complete faith in the team I’m leaving. They are talented, dedicated, and more than ready to carry the mission forward. And although I’ve departed officially, I’ll always be willing to support them and the mission in whatever capacity I can.

I’m not walking away from the mission so much as taking a new seat at the same table. At Optum Serve, I’m looking forward to bringing the lessons I learned in government to a new organization, and, just as importantly, learning a side of the healthcare sector I’ve admired from the outside for years. I’m a firm believer that the best security leaders never stop being students, and I’m energized by everything there is to learn ahead.
