The U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center has awarded VersaTech a logical follow-on task order for cybersecurity assessment services supporting the Center’s Cybersecurity Program. The work will evaluate existing security controls, identify vulnerabilities and gaps, verify compliance requirements, and provide prioritized remediation recommendations.

The requirement expands on a seven-month task order awarded to VersaTech in August 2025. Since that award, DOT policy has required Volpe program systems to migrate from NIST SP 800-53 Revision 4 to Revision 5. The follow-on provides a 12-month base period and 12-month option period, during which VersaTech will perform cybersecurity assessments or Cyber Maturity Assessment revisions on up to 10 systems.

The work includes new system security assessments and follow-up Cyber Maturity Assessments on previously evaluated systems. Volpe says the current noncompetitive approach is driven by the temporary NIST Rev. 5 migration and the incumbent’s existing knowledge of the systems and assessment environment.

Once the NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 migration is completed and Volpe reaches a steady-state environment, the agency says future cybersecurity assessment requirements will either be competitively re-procured or transitioned to DOT OCIO shared services.
