NOAA is seeking industry input on a potential enterprise-wide data infrastructure initiative designed to accelerate cloud migration, modernize data management, and support AI-enabled scientific workflows across the agency.
Under the Combined RFI/Sources Sought Notice for Multi-Cloud Enterprise Data Infrastructure Services, NOAA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer is exploring commercially available capabilities that could support a prototype leading to an operational enterprise platform for weather, ocean, and space-based data.
According to the notice, NOAA is looking to partner with industry to develop a scalable, cloud-native data infrastructure that supports enterprise data management, scientific development, public data access, and AI applications at scale. The envisioned platform would serve as a common data layer capable of integrating data across NOAA organizations while supporting advanced analytics, machine learning, and scientific research workflows.
The agency’s objective is to prototype the capability within six to twelve months and, if successful, transition it into an operational multi-cloud platform. The effort emphasizes interoperability across commercial cloud environments, infrastructure-as-code approaches, modern data architectures, secure data access, and integration with commercial data, analytics, and AI platforms.
NOAA is also seeking solutions capable of supporting enterprise weather, ocean, and space data use cases while providing secure public access to NOAA data and enabling broader scientific collaboration and innovation.
The RFI will help inform NOAA’s acquisition strategy as it evaluates commercially available platforms and approaches capable of supporting long-term enterprise cloud and data modernization objectives.
