CMS is currently transitioning away from SAS software to CMS CIO-approved alternative solutions, which will need to be completed by December of 2026. Magpie is supporting CM/MCMG in this transition by converting key operational programs from SAS to Python/SQL and providing hands-on training and coaching to support CMS staff in utilizing these Python/SQL programs in Snowflake.
Additionally, CMS is in the process of consolidating Medicare Administrative Contractors to improve efficiency and reduce costs to the Medicare program over the next couple of years. These Medicare Administrative Contractors are responsible for processing approximately 1.2 billion Medicare claims
annually and are among the largest and highest dollar contracts that CMS procures. Magpie assists CM/MCMG in the oversight of the Medicare Administrative Contractors by providing data analysis support, which includes developing and refining performance evaluation criteria, developing and maintaining dashboards, projecting cost expenditures and other ad-hoc analyses.
