The DOT intends to increase its use of commercially available cloud computing services to meet computational requirements. Access to these services is managed by the Infrastructure and Operations Cloud team at DOT to ensure cloud services are consumed across the Department with appropriate levels of governance, security, and technical integration with existing DOT IT services, and business integration with existing financial and contractual processes. This approach greatly reduces the burden on the part of individual cloud users, organizations, programs, and projects, since a significant percentage of the requirements associated with federal agency use of commercial cloud services will be addressed by the DOT Office of the Secretary (OST) and results in DOT approved-for-use cloud services offered with facilitated access.
