The Associate Commissioner for Strategic and Digital Communications (AC, OSDC) manages the development and implementation of an Agency wide program to inform the public of their rights and responsibilities under the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs. The incumbent provides executive leadership in the study, interpretation, analysis and evaluation of nationwide public communications products and initiatives, as well as other Agency products, policies, and services, and directs the identification and clarification of nationwide trends. They advise and recommend courses of action to the Deputy Commissioner for Communications.
The AC, OSDC manages SSA-wide communications initiatives through a national framework of headquarters, regional, and local public information/public affairs (PI/PA) delivery strategies and processes. Accordingly, the incumbent deals directly with SSA employees and major customer/stakeholder groups promoting a meaningful exchange of ideas, opinions, and points of view. They implement PI/PA programs and activities designed to develop, enhance, and preserve good working relationships with the general public and a wide variety of national organizations, advocacy groups, and other governmental organizations with an interest in SSA programs.
The incumbent directs the agency’s national audiovisual and visual graphics and the public and employee communications programs, which includes: directing and coordinating SSA Internet and Intranet content management activities; providing guidance on organization, clarity, and audience focus of content submitted for placement on SSA’s internal and external websites; coordinating and developing web materials for SSA’s Internet and Intranet; and directing the design, development, production, and distribution of PI/PA graphics, digital signage, video, photography, and print material internal and external to SSA. They also collect and analyze data to determine the impact of national outreach campaigns, messaging, and communications products and channels produced by the OCOMM and other SSA components to evaluate performance and plan for future initiatives.
