NIH National Cancer Institute names Jim Racheff as Acting Chief Information Officer

Jim Racheff now serves as Chief Information Officer (Acting) for the National Cancer Institute and NCI Associate Director for Information Technology and Operations, leading strategic technology initiatives that advance NCI’s cancer research mission while overseeing research-enabling IT infrastructure and services across multiple NCI locations.

Directs comprehensive IT strategy and operations for the federal government’s principal cancer research agency, managing federal employees and contract staff who support thousands of researchers, fellows, and administrative personnel. Works closely with stakeholders to ensure technology services understand the unique needs of the scientific community while delivering reliable, resilient solutions that facilitate the NCI mission and reduce end user burden. Key initiatives include enterprise modernization, data analytics, management, and AI, Zero Trust Architecture implementation, and development of IT governance frameworks that enable breakthrough cancer research.
