Metron Inc., a leader in autonomous mission planning and decision science, today announced that it has been awarded a $48.6M contract by the U.S. Army to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)-enabled capabilities in support of expeditionary maneuver and air/ground reconnaissance.
The effort builds on Metron’s legacy of developing AI-driven mission planning applications for rapid decision-making in contested environments. Under this contract, Metron will deliver operational software that enables complex planning under uncertain and evolving conditions, significantly decreasing mission planning timelines and increasing the adaptability of expeditionary forces. The applications will directly support operational requirements for joint and multi-domain operations.
“Over the last decade, Metron has delivered operationally relevant AI and advanced planning technologies across the services,” said Dominick Vincent, Vice President of Metron’s Advanced Mathematics Applications division. “This award represents the next step in that progression—moving from concept to fielded capability that enables commanders to adapt faster and make high-consequence decisions with confidence, even in the face of uncertainty.”
“Across the defense sector, we’re seeing a clear need for AI-enabled planning systems that perform in the real world—not just when demoed in a lab or in a presentation,” said Van Gurley, CEO of Metron. “This award is based on our 40 years of consistently delivering innovative solutions to the wicked hard problems and our shared commitment with the Army to field resilient, flexible capabilities that support the warfighter in dynamic and uncertain environments.”
Work will be performed in Reston, Virginia, and will run through June 2029.
