Following the steps of this government partner that leverages trusted expertise, innovative solutions, and accelerators that empower health, civilian, and defense agencies to thrive in an evolving landscape, we caught up with Maximus’ new Federal Health Director, Jennifer Hummel to learn more about why she chose Maximus, what she brings to the table, and the relationships she is looking to foster.
Leveraging DOD and DHA Perspective
After working as a civilian paramedic for over twenty years, I was hired by an industry partner as a medical subject matter expert to develop training for the Army Medical Center of Excellence. During my time there I recognized the need for formal knowledge management processes, which ultimately led to a quality control position over training material content, development, and documentation processes. From there I’ve grown my knowledge management expertise within the Defense Health Agency and large corporations. My goal, within Federal Health, is to create and implement optimal solutions using my experience as a military family member, a healthcare provider, and Knowledge Manager to provide the highest quality health services to our Service Members, their families, and Veterans.
Focus on Innovating Federal Health Services
I reached my decision to join Maximus after having discussions with other Maximus employees and realizing they share my focus on improving and innovating Federal Health services. I’m excited to be a part of an organization where I’m valued for, and able to leverage, my varied experiences in health and military environments.
Strengthening Relationships; Innovating Processes
Joining the Maximus Federal Health team means sharing my experience and knowledge to strengthen relationships, innovate processes, and develop solutions to help Maximus and Federal Health Agencies achieve their missions. Driving growth and success involves having clear vision and goals, customer focus, operational efficiency, and adaptability which are key strategies that I continuously strive to bring to organizations.
A Look to The Digital Front Door
Coming from the Defense Health Agency Enterprise IT Team, I share Lieutenant General Crosland’s focus on digital front door. Achieving digital front door requires the expertise and skills of cross-functional teams to create a user-friendly entry point for patients to access health services. The challenges that federal and industry teams consistently face in this area, are collaboration and sharing knowledge to drive systems integration, modernization, and transformation. Our teams at Maximus are constantly evaluating and ideating ways to provide services that meet these needs through empathetic and thoughtful solutions.
The HCD and AI Opportunities
I’m interested in hearing from leaders in knowledge management, learning and development, change management, and business strategy. Of particular interest is combining resources and sharing ideas to leverage human centered design and artificial intelligence (AI) in these areas.
In 2025 and beyond, I’m looking forward to witnessing how AI impacts the Federal Market, particularly in the areas of regulation, knowledge management, healthcare, research, social services, and disaster preparedness/response.
