HHS names Dr. Meghan M. Dierks as Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer

Dr. Meghan M. Dierks has been appointed as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In her new role, Dr. Dierks will lead initiatives to advance responsible AI adoption, focusing on evidence-driven insights, enhancing human capabilities, accelerating scientific discovery, and transforming service delivery.

Previously, Dr. Dierks served as the Chief Data Officer at Komodo Health, where she oversaw the company’s data strategy, including acquisitions and management practices. Recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts in healthcare informatics, she brings over 20 years of experience spanning industry, academia, and government.

Dr. Dierks has held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School’s Division of Clinical Informatics since 2001 and has served on advisory committees for organizations such as the FDA, HHS, and the Department of Defense. Her career includes leadership roles at GE Healthcare, Magellan Health, and Lumeris Health Outcomes, and she has advised on healthcare technology efforts for Verily and Google.

Dr. Dierks holds a BA from Brown University and an MD from the University of Texas Health, Houston. She completed advanced fellowships in Surgical Oncology and Molecular Genetics at Washington University and Biomedical Informatics at Harvard and MIT.
