On the heels of its merger with Directus Consulting, we caught up with Faizan Zia, President and CEO of Connsci, to learn more about how this company looks to be different, its success as an 8(a) outside of the program, and how it has succeeded to scale based on core values and a foundation of trust.

Desire to be Different

Understanding the importance of customizing services to best fit its clients’ needs, and learning what it takes to help these organizations move forward, Connsci’s  services “are deliberate and heavily customized based on end user needs and assessments of the organizational and individual skills, tasks, and implementation requirements. This results in empowering our clients with the ability to move forward and achieve greater results.”

This customer focused and customizable approach has enabled them to form valuable customer relationships rooted in trust, understanding, and support, changing the way government contracts are won, and long-lasting relationships are formed.

Organizational Scaling

Connsci understands that a strong foundation based on core values will sustain scalability and growth and its recent merger with Directus Consulting has expanded the core capabilities the company now offers. The merger enables the combined company to add Capitol Planning & Investment Control (CPIC), Procurement Support – Contract Lifecycle Management, Systems Engineering & Integration, IT Operations & Maintenance, Data Science, DevOps, App Development, Training, and Cybersecurity to their available solutions.

“Connsci is at an inflection point for accelerating growth and value creation, so we are thrilled to join forces with the team from Directus Consulting to unlock new market opportunities and drive dynamic growth. Directus Consulting has cultivated outstanding talent and excellence in engineering and product innovation. We’ve built an incredible relationship over the years and have already identified tremendous opportunities for growth through our synergies.”

Noting that future growth and M&As will be informed in the same way, Faizan explained that Connsci is open to exploring options that may add skills and talent, but that they “look for partners with whom we can identify a similar mission to take care of the customer, bring value, minimize risk, and treat employees with respect. If we can check all those boxes, any other differences are minor and easy to address.”

Founded in Trust

In alignment with this thought process, Connsci believes in starting any partnership with a focus on the mission, not dollars. They understand the importance of putting people first, and offering help where it is most valuable. “That really defines how we look at partnerships. It should be based on a willingness to engage, share, and work to help one another. The more you grow, the more your partners, employees, and clients expect of the organization. If you are always focused on doing the right thing – moving in the right direction – people will recognize that, and success will follow.”

Outside of 8(a)

Connsci is proud of its 8(a) status, and they work hard to educate their customers and prospects on the value and benefits of using the 8(a) program. However, they have also achieved a great deal of success competing and winning full and open Prime contracts by bringing their experience, expertise, and capabilities to the table, and the value of the 8(a) program is an added benefit for the customer.

The company’s approach is based on an understanding that the Government is ultimately seeking trusted partners – companies that can walk in the door, deliver, and work with them to build a relationship. “Our first task is always building a baseline of rapport and trust, however long it may take. We seek to truly understand the customers’ needs before we begin to recommend or deliver a solution.”

Core Values

Whether it’s the approach to hiring, onboarding and training, or the way the management team approaches their day-to-day work and interactions, Connsci understands the importance of how people approach problems, relate to, and treat each other and customers. Connsci “ties performance reviews to our core values, which includes management, employees, clients, and community – those pillars are reinforced in everything we do as a company.”

Its leadership team also takes the Servant Leadership approach to management. They understand that success is measured through the development of their people. Leadership places an emphasis on collaborative problem solving and creating tomorrow’s leaders from leading by example, exuding humility, communication, and above all – RESPECT. Employees are encouraged to strive for personal and professional development, and management is responsible for working with employees to identify unique skills and strengths to find opportunities for growth.

Community

Connsci has developed a strong focus on community engagement and giving back. They are committed to working with several organizations, including The Children’s Inn at NIH, whom they partner with to ensure children and their families receive the necessary support for some of the world’s rarest medical cases. The company also works closely with The Inn to support its Toy Wishlist and Meals programs and, on Giving Tuesday, Connsci’s donation was the gift that allowed them to meet their goal of $100,000 in 2022.

Understanding the importance of social responsibility and dedication to community, Connsci enables team members to take initiative to support charitable work, community partnerships, and philanthropic outreach within the community. This commitment to giving back to the community starts at the corporate leadership level and is emphasized throughout the company.
