This accomplished leader, who has been recognized for her work with two NIST Special Act Awards for outstanding leadership and the NIST Bronze award — the bureau’s highest honor, takes on a new challenge.

Hannah Brown is now listed as Chief Information Officer with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Prior to this, Hannah servers as Deputy Associate Director for Laboratory Programs (ADLP) for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In this role, she served as the principal supervisor for the Standards Coordination Office, Special Programs Office and Research Protections Office. She also advised the ADLP, providing operational guidance for NIST’s scientific and technical laboratory programs across six laboratories, leads program and budget development, and coordinates interagency and outreach activities, accelerating U.S. innovation.

Before becoming deputy ADLP, Hannah served as acting director of NIST’s Business Operations Office, where she oversaw major enterprise-wide IT development and process improvement efforts. She spearheaded NIST’s efforts to host a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at its Gaithersburg, Maryland, campus—the first clinic of its type and scale for federal employees. She also oversaw and transformed the interagency agreement review process responsible for bringing other agency funding into NIST. Hannah held positions in NIST’s Office of Information Management Services, where she envisioned and realized new approaches for life-cycle management of IT programs and other processes, consistently bringing people together across organizational lines to make improvements.

She has been recognized for her work with two NIST Special Act Awards for outstanding leadership and the NIST Bronze award — the bureau’s highest honor.

Before joining NIST, Hannah served as director of operations for a technical firm providing managed IT support services, tools, and more. She also served in project and outcomes management roles in city government and nonprofit organizations.
