There are many things that signify forward momentum. A growing portfolio of Prime awards; the announcement of a new mentor-protégé agreement; and the addition of EY Senior partner, Marc Andersen, to an advisory board that already includes former Air Force CTO Frank Konieczny and former US Deputy Federal CIO Maria Roat were some of the indicators that vTech Solution was worth a closer look. OS AI sat down with Chief Strategy Officer Michael Pereira to learn more about the organization’s expansion and growth into the federal space, its success as a small business, and how understanding emerging talent has this firm focused on purpose.

Building on Perspective

Founded in 2006, vTech is by no means a new kid on the block but its origins focused on the SLED (State, Local and Education) markets may mean the name is one some are perhaps just beginning to know.

“In 2022 we won 50 new prime sled contracts alone, averaging four to six a month which allowed us to develop other pieces of our business, including our recruiting arm. We started bringing our SLED solutions to the federal space about five years ago and over the past three years have been awarded over 20 Prime contracts.”

With more than 100 recruiters now on staff, vTech is able to quickly and effectively address the needs of large federal projects.

Other initiatives included building out the company’s key pillars including its BD team, marketing capabilities, its proposal shop, solution architects, SMEs and more. “About two years ago we built an advisory board with key leaders including Jack White, attorney; Frank Konieczny, former CTO of the Air Force who last year was among the top 100 most influential it people in the federal government; and Maria Roat. These leaders are helping us to position to navigate the deeper waters beyond small business status; that $50M to $100M level.”

Actively leveraging the perspective, insights and networks of these key leaders, vTech is positioning to compete effectively in a full and open marketplace.

Succes as a Small Business

As small business, vTech has a compelling story, with exceptional CPARS, a consistent model of execution and customer delivery and maturity evolved through its extensive SLED experience. One of the company’s key technical domains is AI and under it, an AI logic engine which has already been used in support of USDA.

“We do a lot of CX and DX work, enhancing federal capabilities to better align them with what end users have come to expect from their commercial interactions and meeting the demands of the Administration to create a better digital experience for citizens.”

Understanding Emerging Talent Needs

Knowing it will be competing with other top firms, vTech spent time understanding what drives talent and came to the conclusion that work with purpose is essential.

The team also realized that federal clients were adding managed staffing providers to help support their efforts so a focus on developing key relationships. Thus the recent mentor-protégé agreement with TAD.There’s no secret sauce. It’s all about building relationships with folks that compliment us and operate outside of our technical domains. Whether it is small business or large integrators we’re looking for true teaming agreements and relationships that will stand for the long term.”

Noting that nothing is a handout, vTech looks to bring value to the table, and looks to those who will as well, noting they have built multiple mutually beneficial relationships that are win-win for all involved.

For its internal team vTech has evolved a culture of giving back, looking to them for direction on what is important to them. “A few years ago, we bought 100 high-quality blankets and walked the streets of DC passing them out, and donating what was left to local shelters. We donated almost $30k last year to the food bank. Those directions come from our internal team and how they want to make an impact.”

The Real vTech – the Federally Focused vTech

While a quick Google search may pull a few other companies with similar names, vTech Solution is distinct. What makes them so? Simply put, passion. From the CEO down, this company is focused on delivering for the customer, whatever that means. “There is a purpose that is more important than money, more critical to focus on.”

While still largely in the State and local markets, the focus of this team moving forward is on the federal space, on those high impact and critical missions these agencies support. “That same passion and energy we brought to the SLED market in 2006, we are now dedicating to federal clients. It is our passion and we have the experience and perspective to continue to grow and win in that space in a full and open market.”

Curious to meet the team; to see for yourself who they are? You’ll find them at one of their favorite events this October – Imagine Nation ELC in Hershey, PA. “We’re always looking for great partners that share our passion around technology and customers; those who are looking for win-wins for both sides and who have something real to bring to the table. Whether it is our customers, our internal team, or potential partners, we are looking to develop relationships for the long-term.”
