The competitive landscape for the Federal IT and Consulting sector is dynamic, with companies entering and exiting every day for a range of reasons. A goal for any Government and GovCon leader is to identify, establish relationships with, and support firms, and their respective leaders, which are positioned to serve as the next generation of highly successful GovCon small businesses.     

Every other week, we will highlight a handful of very small, but rapidly emerging businesses that are NEW (have been formed and/or launched in the last 30 months), and that should be on your radar as both a potential partner and competitor.     

This week we share four new ventures who are coming out of the gate fast. Two are SDVOSBs launched by former Federal leaders and subject matters experts from the FBI and HHS/CMS. Bow Wave – Guided by CEO Joshua Skule, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Executive Assistant Director and a National Security expert that has appeared on CNN, CNBC, and other professional industry panels, this Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, HUBZone Certified small business, focused on services that include counterintelligence, cybersecurity, transformative services, data science and open source technology development, brings some serious street credibility. With the $7B FBI ITSS competition on the near horizon, this non-traditional Government contractor, whose members are TS/SCI and CI cleared, will be one of the more in-demand partner options as we close FY 2023 and look to FY 2024.  

ViaTrie – Led by a trio of veteran industry leaders, this newly minted women-owned small business is out of the gate quickly, having already secured Prime contract wins that include a pair of USDA Cloud Acquisition Support Services and USDA Enterprise Cloud Vendor Management wins. Led by partners Lisa Zellers, Sherry Gernhofer and Kim Reinke, and carrying a stated mission to create human-centric, mission-focused, socially responsible and technology powered innovations, this consulting firm, with expertise and capabilities in ​business process transformation; data strategy and analytics; governance, strategic planning​ & leadership support; organizational change management​ & training; portfolio and program management​; and technology modernization and automation​, is #onetowatch. 

CivDef Group – This newly founded company and SDVOSB, focused in the areas of digital transformation, IT solutions, professional services, and training & development, will and should be an attractive partner option for any Federal Health focused company. CivDef is led by CEO and President Fred Butler Jr., who spent more than 23 years as a member of the US Public Health Service, which included serving within HHS where he managed more than $1B in federal contracts and grants, including as a key architect and driver in the development and execution of some of the most successful HHS national programs at CMS, HRSA and CDC. Did we mention that industry veteran Royce Resoso, who brings nearly three decades of leadership and consulting experience in IT outsourcing, innovation, and corporate/defense strategy development, and as a senior leader, Brigadier General, in the United States Army Reserve is CivDef’s COO?
