RESTON, VA, December 20, 2021 — LATCH has been awarded a prime contract through the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program for research around the topic of Medical Device Verification Using Model-Based Testing. During this contract, LATCH, the University of Pennsylvania, and Altrix Medical, Inc. will develop and refine a methodology to identify and verify anomalies and vulnerabilities in the software and firmware of devices. The DARPA SBIR Program is a highly competitive awards-based program that allows small businesses to immerse themselves in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) to show their technological potential. The goal of the DARPA SBIR Program is to stimulate high-tech innovation and to grow “entrepreneurial spirit” while meeting R/R&D needs. “We are very excited to be conducting our research with DARPA and the Small Business Innovation Research program and our partners at the University of Pennsylvania and Altrix Medical,” said Leone Atchison, President of LATCH. She adds, “Under the guidance of Paul Jones, our Principal Investigator, and Dr. Oleg Sokolsky, our Co-Principal Investigator, we are enhancing warfighter readiness through a rigorous, effective, and independent verification methodology and model to identify vulnerabilities in the software and firmware of medical devices.” LATCH was founded in 2016 and became an SBA-certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) in 2018 and an SBA-certified 8(a) Small Business in 2020.
