OMB adds Education Department CIO Thomas Flagg as Deputy Federal CIO

This Information Technology (IT) planning and program management expert with more than 20 years of experience in the development, modernization, and delivery of critical IT systems and applications in support of a wide range of federal government operations takes on a new role.

Thomas Flagg is now listed as Deputy Federal Chief Information Officer with the Office of Management and Budget.

Thomas most recently led the team in IT strategy, conceptualizing, planning, and delivering working technology solutions to benefit the taxpayer with a focus tied to administering and fostering Academic Excellence on behalf of the taxpayer through the U.S. Department of Education.

Prior to that he spent more than a decade in support of DOL including time overseeing all business-focused application projects throughout the development life cycle, including management of staff resources, and identifying ways to improve existing business-focused systems and transitions legacy systems onto platform technologies in accordance with the enterprise architecture strategic plan and agency mission needs. This includes providing strategic guidance and oversight over the software development process for all business applications-related projects, including defining the scope, timelines, deliverables, and resources needed to implement system development projects.
