Following the news that Smoothstack has launched a new business unit – Fedstack – to serve pressing technology needs of federal government entities, we caught up with EVP Chris Coligado to find out more about what the announcement means for this trusted technology solutions provider and its Federal clients.
A Commitment to its Federal Focus
The decision to create Fedstack as a distinct entity reflects the urgency and opportunity we see in the federal space. The public sector sits at a pivotal moment. Technological advancements are accelerating, public needs are becoming increasingly intricate, and the federal workforce faces significant attrition as more experienced, tenured talent ages out.
By launching Fedstack now, we’re doubling down on our commitment to help federal clients modernize, secure, and scale their systems and their workforce with clarity and precision. Our goal is to create a focused, mission-aligned arm that can deliver more impactful results, faster.
Scaling and Expanding its Footprint
We aim to scale our current Tier-2 Talent Scaling Solutions to a much broader set of Federal SI Partners to expand our footprint across all 10 sectors where we aim to grow. We formed our new Tier-1 Consulting Solutions offering anchored in five major capability areas relevant to the Federal marketplace today: Data & AI, Application Development, Digital Platforms, Infrastructure Solutions, and Cybersecurity. To lead our Tier-1 services, we brought in the most experienced leaders in Federal Technology Consulting and who represent over a century of successful Federal engagements in Technology Transformation and Modernization across 25 Federal departments and agencies. Finally, to meet the skill-based demand of Technology Modernization efforts in the Federal Sector, we stood up our Tier-3 Partner Training Solutions offering, that allows us to help not only our Systems Integrator Partners but also Government Agency workforces directly, to address their struggles to keep up with the demand for upskilling or reskilling their existing workforces under the barrage of rapid technological changes so they can future-proof their workforce with the required skills to operate them effectively and continuously adapt as needed.
Moving forward, this means more targeted investments, not just in workforce scaling, but in consulting, technology training, and tailored partnerships that directly align with the needs of the public sector.
Building on Experience
The Federal Market is a very complex apparatus that requires experienced leaders to navigate, and we will lean on those experiences to help us accelerate our progress to expand our services in new sectors. Our experience has shown us that true transformation in the federal space requires a combination of deep domain knowledge within each mission area, the right technical expertise, agile solutions that can deliver impact quickly with rapid iterations rather traditional waterfall approaches, and a strong partnerships ecosystem to bring new and emerging solutions that accelerate outcomes.
We’ve learned that being innovative in how we deliver our services makes us a force multiplier for our partners. Unlike competitors focused solely on staffing, we offer a broader set of capabilities that extends beyond traditional hiring, including full-service consulting and partner training opportunities.
This approach allows us to not only meet immediate needs but also help federal agencies build sustainable systems and scalable workforces that can adapt to future demands. Success for us is about creating value on multiple levels—deploying the right talent quickly, designing solutions that align with unique mission requirements, and fostering a culture of continuous learning through training programs tailored to our partners’ technologies and goals.
Ahead of the Curve Solving Key Federal Challenges
The rebrand is a commitment to staying ahead of the curve in solving these challenges. Our five key areas of concentration are Data & AI, Application Development, Digital Platforms, Infrastructure Solutions, and Cybersecurity. To successfully deliver these capabilities requires not just technical expertise, but also a nuanced understanding of federal mission and operations and that is why we formed our Fedstack leadership team with a natural alignment to each of these capability areas where each leader possess a long track record of success in implementing major programs for the last 20 to 30 years.
Fedstack’s framework prioritizes co-creating solutions with our clients—leveraging AI responsibly, ensuring modernization efforts are scalable, and embedding security at every level. By centralizing our federal services under one entity, we’re better positioned to focus on these critical areas with precision, speed, and an eye toward long-term impact.
Uniquely Holistic Solutions
Each of these milestones reinforces our readiness to lead with a uniquely holistic solution, given our three key offerings.
The key hires we’ve brought in bring fresh perspectives and deep federal expertise to the table, while the addition of new contract vehicles with our key partners such as OASIS+ and USDA STRATUS Pool 2, demonstrates our ability to meet the highest standards for government contracting. Being named to the Inc 5000, Elev8 GovCon, recognition as the largest apprenticeship program in the region (Northern VA) in the latest – Annual Outstanding Apprenticeship Awards (85th anniversary celebration), highlights our momentum as a company and our dedication to fostering a culture of excellence.
These achievements aren’t just accolades—they’re proof that Fedstack is positioned to tackle the challenges of tomorrow with purpose, agility, and unwavering intent.
While the Fedstack name is new to the industry, the foundation we’ve built behind the scenes is deeply rooted and poised to make a meaningful impact.
