The NITAAC series of multi-billion dollar contract vehicles, and one of the few true GWAC providers, have been a dominant acquisition choice over the past decade for Federal agency leaders seeking to acquire IT and Consulting Services.
Those days may be numbered.
The simple question “Does NITAAC still exist?” was posed by MetaPhase Co-Founder Brett McLaren late yesterday on LinkedIn, but the fact is that there are few answers being provided by the government at this time.
What we do know:
NITAAC has gone dark – The NITAAC website and set of partners tools on the website has been down for more than a week and the word is that many Prime vendors have been unable to access some in-house tools used by Prime government contractors.
Contract Consolidation is underway – If we have learned anything from this new administration it is that they move quickly. GSA is aggressively taking steps in support of the Presidential Executive Order, Eliminating Waste and Saving Taxpayer Dollars by Consolidating Procurement, which seeks to consolidate domestic procurement for common goods and services.
NITAAC was already on the ropes – As we reported, NITAAC recently requested more time from the courts amid mounting issues related to the award of the next generation $50B CIO-SP4 GWAC. “Nearly a billion dollars has been spent by government and industry in pursuit of this GWAC … Four years in, the list of issues is growing, not shrinking” and the longtime NITAAC Director jumped ship late last year.
In summary, GSA has been trying to kill off NITAAC for some time. If you have followed this sector for a while, you know that GSA has made their case for years that NITAAC was redundant. The case has been made that the NITAAC series of contracts provided the Federal sector with access to unique and specialized Health IT capabilities, but the addition of Health IT specific SINS on GSA MAS have partially addressed this gap.
Is it possible for NITAAC and/or the CIO-SP4 contract to survive this? Maybe, but all signs indicate that the final nail may be hammered home soon.
