Looking back on a year that included key wins at DOJ, DOL, the Defense Media Activity, and a very recent $36M HHS ACF contract, we caught up with Zolon Tech’s Vice President and GM-Federal Civilian, Dan Abernathy to learn more about this rapidly expanding IT and managed services company, its vast federal footprint and what 2024 has in store.

Humble Roots to Incredible Growth

From its start as a staffing company, a first contract win with VA that required two people and which the team still supports, a $72M contract with the State Department, multiple commercial clients and wins across state and local agencies, Zolon has been quietly and steadily growing in both the scope and size of its contracts, and the agencies it supports.

“We touch agencies across federal health, financials, citizen services, intelligence and more. You wouldn’t think of us as a website or digital services company, but we manage 1200 websites for DOD. Many of our contracts are focused on various aspects of modernization, whether that is Zero Trust, cloud, AI, or DevSecOps. We have been able to diversify, to extend our reach, so that we sit on a strong book of business that has allowed us to be strategic and focused on our growth.”

A trusted advisor and partner to government supporting modernization through leading edge technologies, and having the maturity to be able to leverage insight from across the commercial and government space, Zolon also maintains lessons learned and capabilities from its earliest days. “Our foundational infrastructure dating back to our staffing days, our talent management knowhow, allows us to help government implement quickly and effectively, to ramp up new projects with talented assets that will ensure the project’s success.”

The Partner Lens

Leveraging its broad perspective and experience, Zolon represents a unique partner opportunity for small, mid-tier and large businesses. From XML tagging work to bioinformatics, its complimentary knowledge from work focused on health and financial systems across agencies, the company brings a breadth of past performance and perspective that flies slightly under the radar.

“Many people know the name Zolon but they don’t really know what we are about. For a small business looking for a mature company that recognizes the value they bring, appreciates the relationship that can be built, that is founded on a culture that is inviting and welcoming, we are a company you want to get to know.”

That warm and inviting culture is evidenced in multiple team members with more than a decade with Zolon, in an approach that honors promises as commitments, and from a lens that remembers what it was like to be a small, what was needed to succeed, and a willingness to share that intel.

Helping Government Modernize

Under an umbrella of modernization that includes key contract vehicles, technologies including AI and ML, business process improvement and key platforms including Unqork, engineering and architecture experience, data engineering, SAFe Agile and more, Zolon opens the door to many opportunities, and has the past performance to support forward movement across any federal sector.

“As more agencies work to modernize, as they look to leverage AI and ML, Zolon brings to the table experience gained from the commercial and federal side to help agencies move forward, streamline process, and get the intel they need to make informed decisions. We’re not new to this game so we bring the advice, based on knowledge and experience, that can help agencies make decisions about first and next steps.”

With the new year all about making connections, you can learn more about Zolon in person at HIMMS, the AFCEA Bethesda Health IT Summit 2024 and the February Engage FedGov: Emerging Technologies and Engaged Leaders Delivering Results event.
